Position & Client Overview:

Our client is a growing state-of-the-art reference laboratory laboratory in New York City is looking for histologists. These are weekday positions with all shifts currently available.


Job Summary:

Perform routine specimen preparation which involves cutting various tissue types and mounting them on glass slides for examination under the microscope by the pathologist.


The histologist must be experienced in receiving, processing, and preparing patient tissue specimens for microscopic examination and analysis by the pathologist. Able to perform complex histologic procedures, recognize deviations from expected results, and analyze and correct problems using scientific principles learned from NAACLS training and at least one year of experience.


Skill Requirements:

  • Calibrate, operate, troubleshoot and maintain the equipment

  • Dexterity and good hand-eye coordination are required to collect and prepare specimens

  • Lab safety and infection prevention is of paramount importance


Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Prepares histologic slide from tissue sections for microscopic examination and diagnosis by Pathologist.

  • Operates computerized laboratory equipment to fix, dehydrate, and infiltrate with wax, tissue specimens to be preserved for study by Pathologist.

  • Prepares slides of specimens, using specified stain, to enhance visibility under microscope.

  • Prepares and maintains all necessary reagents, including stains, alcohols, and paraffins according to proper inspection. 

  • Examine slides under microscope to ensure tissue preparation meets laboratory requirements.

  • May study slides under microscope to detect deviations from norm and report abnormalities for further study.

  • Process specimen accessioning to include all manual and computerized data entry.

  • Maintains laboratory, equipment, and accurate records of quality assurance control.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.



  • Knowledge of programming and operation of general laboratory and automated IHC equipment.

  • Ability to maintain records

  • Ability to use microscope/cryostat, tissue processors, and stainers

  • Ability/willingness to adhere to the established departmental service standards


Education, Certification, & Experience:

  • Associate Degree

  • New York license

  • One (1) year of experience
