Clinical Lab research has shown that exposure to sunlight (in moderation) has multiple health benefits. And because of this, losing an hour of sleep for a chance to get a little more sunlight not only seems understandable, but necessary. One of the major and well-known benefits of sunshine is vitamin D. Sunlight helps your body convert a form of cholesterol that is present in your skin into vitamin D, you only need about 10-15 minutes of sun exposure a day in order for your body to produce an adequate amount of Vitamin D to deliver great health benefits.

Can you imagine forgetting your fondest memories? Forgetting the ones that are closest to you? It is a dreadful and heart-breaking feeling, for it’s our past that molds our future. As the memories fade, so does our known life. This is the ongoing battle with Parkinson’s disease. Parkinson’s is a degenerative disorder of the central nervous system. Parkinson’s disease results from the death of dopamine-generating cells in the substantia nigra, a region of the midbrain. The affect of the disease is traumatic and the cause of it is still unknown. At the early stages of Parkinson’s disease the most obvious symptoms are movement-related; these include shaking, rigidity, slowness of movement and difficulty with walking. The most fear aspects come in the advance stages when cognitive and behavioral problems may arise, including dementia.

Since much is not known about the true nature and development of brain cells, it is hard to study, treat and cure Parkinson’s. Right now there is no known cure, only medication to delay the traumatic effects that it has. But with clinical laboratories making tremendous leaps forward, we are getting that much closer to understanding Parkinson’s as well as finding different measures to counter this debilitation disease.

-Stems cell transplant enables legally blind to see again.

One of the first experiments with stem cells preform on humans has been classified as a success. The research team was granted the permission to test 12 patients with dry macular degeneration and 12 with Stargardt’s macular dystrophy with stem cell transplant. All patience has been considered legally blind.

The report findings from the first two patience who under went the procedure were astonishing. Within weeks of the procedure patients claimed that colors were brighter, details were clearer and everyday task were easier. The patients first tested have said that is has been a life changing experience.

This seems like a classic feel good story in the health care world, but because of the controversy over stem cells, the good news is over shadowed by moral dilemma. Are we preventing one life to improve another? Are we in the position to handle this type of power? What do you think?
